A Sensational Architectural Masterpiece of a Hotel

Queen Victoria Suite

Arriving from Paris on the Eurostar Train on Friday evening a couple of weeks ago. Brilliant location at St Pancras Station, if trains got any closer maybe you would get off train into reception area of this truly remarkable hotel

I have as the world’s most traveled person in the world with 15 million miles and 718 flights in Concorde I have stayed in some 7000 hotel beds, so have a pretty good idea of what is good about hotels. Have to say, the restored to its former glory of the St Pancras Renaissance Hotel, is grand, majestic, the ultimate place to stay in London.

I have eaten many times in the booking hall restaurant and bar, in the former booking hall of this station building with the original wooden shutters of the counters still in place. This restaurant is really popular with hotel guests as well as commuters using St Pancras to travel to their homes, around end of business day it gets pretty busy, the restaurant is also frequented by local people who come to enjoy the excellent menu provided by the Executive Chef. I met the chef a really helpful man by accident when asking directions to my room. The Chef has worked with the best of Chefs, at the Savoy and other famous restaurants and hotels, you can expect many and, do receive many exciting culinary delights, added to the  remarkable atmosphere, with a terrific ambience, there is good musical entertainment here in the evening’s.

I am impressed with the hotel lobby and check in it really is something to see. Check in was quick and  I was on the way to my suite the Queen Victoria Suite it is a twin roomed suite and as I had a business associate Ben Lord the Chairman of the Save The Concorde Group with me on this trip we decided to share the facilities of this remarkable apartment,  also would be suitable for young children, the plugs are tamper proof for little fingers the doors cant slam have an ingenious stopper high upon the door again the little ones can’t get locked in or trap fingers and finally all furniture sharp corner have a a smooth clear plastic edge, all very safe and unobtrusive.

The lounge is beautifully furnished with dining table and chairs, occasional tables and a luxurious deep sink into settee, some nice artwork on the walls a curved room with warm cozy natural wood flooring. Flat screen tv in all three rooms and ensuite facilities in each room. Of course there are the usual high speed Wi-Fi, ample plugs for laptops and mobile phones and any other appliances you need to plug into the electricity. The large king size beds are very comfortable with a choice of pillows soft hard etc. The Queen Victoria Suite has an amazing view down Marylebone High Street. There I use of the Chamber Club down stairs close to the reception area a more secluded lounge with many rooms for the discerning guests to use , read, or try the chef specialties of the day, has a remarkable staircase leading up to the first floor and close to the executive floors.

We met the charming courteous, very personable professional manager Gareth Banner, and my very good friend, the elegant and charming Victoria Diez-Davis the Director of Sales, having met these two I can understand why the quality of service is so very high here. We had the good fortune to meet at the Chamber Club for drinks, wine, spirits, beers, juices etc., are readily available,  a true oasis to conduct any meeting, the food served in the chambers Club both hot and cold  snacks and while not a full dinner very substantial and again very tasty and delightful to eat here. Breakfast is served here a great buffet selection of juices, hot  and cold selections, cereals of many types, and a full English breakfast can be fully enjoyed here, if there is something you don’t see like for example eggs benedict they  charming waitress for eastern Europe is only too happy to order for you.

The stairs are from another very fine age with wide curving stairs and iron balustrades fine murals on ceilings and walls this is one extremely elegant and fine Victorian Building its worth seeing even if you’re not a resident its completely brilliant.

Service at The St Pancras Renaissance is really 5 stars and it is a pleasure to have stayed and experienced what this hotel has to offer has to offer.

With its closeness to St Pancras and Kings Cross Stations the underground this is a terrific location to stay at and it can be for family weekend, business stays and meetings and Valentines is coming up and this has to be the place ti be too start your European trip, or as we did to stay after our European trip.

I recommend this fine hotel 100%

The Fantastic Mirotel Resort and Spa Truskavets Ukraine

Grand EntranceThe Fantastic Mirotel Resort and Spa Truskavets Ukraine

I traveled from Tbilisi to Lviv via the direct connection from Ukraine International Airlines  landed late at night at Lviv.

The Mirotel resort and Spa driver was there met me took my baggage to the new Volvo car and drove very carefully to Truskavets about 1.5 hours west of Lviv.

The arrival was very late at night around 23.30 however the front of the Mirotel at night was impressive with its steps into reception lit up like a fashion display runway very attractive. My initial feelings were good and go better with the large but attractive with a roomy bar with artwork on display very comfortably furnished altogether a lounge bar with good ambiance.

I was welcomed and checked in within minutes by the welcoming receptionist who addressed me by name when I approached the reception area.

The reception is modern without being it shiny and obtrusive a very clever way to incorporate a classy environment into a newly built resort. I felt very welcome.

I arrived in the room nice king size bed, nicely decorated in quite pastel shades, adequate lighting for all needs work, relaxing, and plenty of plugs for laptops, phone chargers, and other items that need a plug in. flat screen TV, high speed wi-fi, air conditioner, coffee, tea, and amenities provided in the bathroom together with bath robe and slippers which you will most likely need during your stay for visits to the spa and medical center. The rooms are of a high standard and I felt most comfortable being here. Suites come with  delightful Italian styled furniture, have additional services  like turn down in the evenings and upgraded amenities, the Miracle suite has a Jacuzzi right next to the bed and a private bar in the room this is the suite for the romantics just an amazing suite.

I did get a peek into the two bed-roomed Presidential Apartment with a very large lounge, exquisitely decorated  and has  designer furniture pure class,  all rooms have a flat screen TV, both bedrooms have en-suite bathroom’s, there is a guest bathroom in the lounge/ sitting room

Staying in this apartment means you will enjoy a free transfer and return from Lviv airport on arrival and departure

Hotel has excellent services  including Concierge Service; Business Center; wi-fi Internet access; 24-hour Room Service;; Early check-in/late check-out; Transfer upon the request  Free parking; Babysitting service.

Of course many people come to Truskavets and Mirotel resort and Spa for the treatments offered and the amazing water from their own pump room and most famous of all the waters is the Naftusia water, it has amazing some people say miracle qualities, it has liver regeneration and protection properties, detoxifies and displays oxidized metabolites with diuretic, antispasmodic and analgesic effect, relieves kidney, urinary, liver and intestine inflammation.

Maria Water another famous mineral water:

Effective for inflammatory bowel disease, reduces gastric inflammation, reduces excess stomach acid.

Sofia Water for different stomach ailments.

Bronislava Water taken warm for respiratory problems

This is not surprising since this part of Ukraine has been famous for its recuperative and healing spas with these famous waters for centuries and they water has to be taken at the spa as it loses its inherent benefits after a short time.

I asked for a tour of the Medical Center, here you have a state of the art medical center with top equipment from around the globe.

I met some of the highly qualified specialists who combine the resort recreational resources and recent developments in the global balneology to treat our guests. The Medical Center consists of a diagnostic center, balneary, SPA-center and laboratory. Mirotel Resort & Spa is connected to Med-Palace by a convenient covered passage.

I had the misfortune to break a tooth and to my surprise there is a dental department with state of the art technology. The dentist put a little instrument into my mouth turned out it was a camera so he could show me on the screen my problem. The dentist Dr Saad Takriti was the ultimate dentist, caring, gentle and aware that people had fears of dentists, Dr Saad was a brilliant dentist.

I had the pleasure to relax before dinner with a complete full body massage and after late nights and a very early morning the relaxing soft massage almost had me in my pleasant dream. They have some amazing massage oils and skin treatments and wow they make you feel good.

I can say that the medical center is a complete professional facility in every way and particular care and attention had been paid to every minute detail to ensure it remains a top medical center.

After my massage I went to the Bellini Restaurant.

I had the pleasure to be joined at dinner by the PR Director Irina Ivasivka a lady who was so proud of the hotel and medical center that, after I asked to be shown around the hotel they called Irina, Irina came in from her vacation and gave me a tour of the town, and the town pump room explaining the medical benefits of each different water and saying that she would come and join me for dinner.

We had dinner in the delightful Bellini Restaurant on the top floor a restaurant with great ambiance, comfort and views. The menu was truly good maybe because the chef had come from the Opera Hotel in Kiev and they only do five stars. I had a starter and the sea bass cooked to absolute perfection, the service was polite helpful and dinner was a totally enjoyable experience.

I had to leave around 0400 in the morning to catch the early flight back to Kiev. The wake up call was on time and checkout all prepared, and the driver was their within a few minutes another safe and careful drive with the driver teaching me a few new words of Ukrainian.

I would definitely like to visit this wonderful resort and very pretty town again.

I would recommend it to anyone, it is great for families there are children’s play areas, pools inside and out.  Great for a romantic few days or Valentine break it has something for everyone in winter spring or summer, remembering that while you’re here there is the value of the medical center enjoy and get well at the same time.

I will writing more about Opera Hotel later and my re visit to Bello the first male barber shop in Ukraine enjoyed the experience more since e now knew what to expect and how good it was.

When the best is home from home, warm, welcoming and an irresistible haven to come back to time and time and time again
The wonderfully located Opera Hotel is just a few minutes away from the city centre of the Kiev to my mind the most beautiful of European cities. I have never seen another city with so many golden globes of the amazing St. Volodymyr’s Cathedral, Saint Sophia Cathedral, and Kiev Opera House is just around the corner, within easy is the Golden Gate to the city of Kie.
I have had the pleasure of staying in many of the standard rooms some newly refurbished to a very high quiet and relaxing standard, the Superior rooms somewhat larger than the standard have comfortable settees with quite lighting for relaxation after the work days end. The suites are all themed Japanese, Moroccan Suite with a super large balcony for those summer evenings to look down on the tree lines boulevard below. American or executive suite and Italian elegant superior furnishings, deep luxurious carpets, heavy ceiling to floor drapes, standard lamps with all that the modern traveler may need, such as complimentary high speed internet, Panasonic portable telephones, flat screen modern TV’s, safe all with a great many satellite stations to meet the demands of most nationalities. There is a working size desk in every room with spare plugs enough for all computing and phone charging needs. 24 hour front desk (reception) business centre, secretary available on request this hotel can be your office away from home.
Of course like all 5 star quality hotels the Opera Hotel has the Diva Spar with such treatments to spoil and enhance your senses. This spa which I finally have now used on at least two occasions is just what is needed after your long day or even long trip to Kiev. You can try the traditional Thai, Polynesian, hot stone massages, there is a gym, sauna Jacuzzi, and trained beauticians with top European cosmetics to enhance your wellbeing, many more treatments for men and ladies this Anne Semonin spa caters for every one that needs the use of a very friendly and modern spa.
It is impossible to stay at the Opera Hotel without using the Teatro fine dining restaurant and Bellini’s bar. Bellini’s Bar is a snug cozy little bar serving local and international beers with a great selections of wines, whiskies, cognacs and cocktails and a good selection of bar food, the bar extends to the outside terrace in the summer months and is a cool place to people watch, if you’re a man to watch the very beautiful well attired ladies on their way to and from work, work is not all bad sometimes from such a location
The beautiful lobby with a white grand piano, and on some evenings a wonderful harpist playing soft easy listening music, the lobby is always bedecked with the finest of floral arrangements, big settees and area’s to hold private conversations, . Service from Bellini’s Bar can be obtained in the lobby so you don’t have to leave meetings with friends or business contacts.
Kirill Kuleshov Chief Concierge member of “Les Clefs d’Or” The concierge is an award winning concierge and they can sort you out with transportation, tickets, where night life and restaurants are should you desire to dine out, phone cards , onward reservation’s they are indeed a very helpful, full service professional, pleasant ever willing to assist the needs of guests is a welcome part of Opera Hotel.
Teatro the fine dining restaurant on the second, since the coming of that wonderful Corporate Executive Chef Emmanuel Soares a year or so ago I have seen personally that with his two trusted wingmen Paulo Vas and Eric Testes the food had good from good to better the breakfast has perhaps one of the best spreads available, cold meats, salads, many different breads, yogurts’, honey’s including honeycomb, freshly squeezed juices, selections of teas, hot dishes vegetable, eggs boiled or scrambled or to order, bacon mushrooms and tomatoes, brilliant, They do a super businessman’s lunch at a very reasonable price with a very varied and delicious choice I had the pleasure to have lunch there twice during my last visits. I would eat there many times again into the future. They have the businessmans lunch card which will entitle the holder to every 10th lunch on the house.
It’s in the evening that the Teatro Restaurant finds itself as truly remarkable fine dining venue. The food here has the favours of Provence emanating from Emmanuel Soares background, I think they do one of the best steaks ever done in any hotel I have stayed in with Foiegras and truffles its food to die for.
There are pasta dishes and local ukrainian dishes and you could do worse than try the tantalizing tasteful ukrainian dips that start the meal.
During any meal or drink that you make partake of in the hotels restaurants or bars you will meet a tall very hard working Food and Beverage director Stephan Masche he is always asking if you require anything and seems to be everywhere all at the same time a consummate professional.
This is my third time back at Opera Hotel in the last few months it has become a true home from home.
It is so very special to get out of the car and have the welcome start as the doorman opens the door and says hallo to me by name. I walk into and down the few steps to the lobby the flowers are welcome , the concierge desk says a warm welcome, likewise the reception say welcome back to Opera Hotel Mr. Finn please sign your preregistered check in card, and I am on the way to the room, however by this time Mr. David Mohren the professional and extremely pleasant general manager, who has made such a success of this hotel since he came little more than a year ago, is saying welcome back to your home in Kiev, how could you not like this welcome its sincere not like in some places where it is quite obviously a job. I have stayed as the most travelled person some 7000 hotel beds and have a great idea which is good or not, this is why I share me views so that others my share the same experiences I have myself.
I will be going back to Kiev and the Opera Hotel in couple of weeks’ time for some more of that good old fashioned warmth and welcome that is entirely persona of this Hotel.
Keep up the good work it shows and people like me love it
